Govt. of India, vide resolution NO. EL-II-35/(3)/63 dated 13th February 1964 , established a regional agency for North Eastern Region to implement the concept of coordinated operation of Power Systems. The agency was designed as the North Eastern Regional Electricity Board

Govt. of India, under the provision of Sec 2, Subsection 55 of the Electricity Act, 2003 vide resolution F. No. 23/1/2004-R&R dated 25th May 2005 and subsequent amendment dated 29.11.2005 published in the Gazette of India has established the NERPC comprising of States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. Regional Power Committee is established by resolution by the Central Government for NER for facilitating the integrated operation of the power systems in the region.
